My cat is a *big* cat. (Not overfed, just a very big boy!) He's well over two feet long and weighs over twenty pounds, so he has a difficult time with many traditionally sized cat condos. He can't fit in them, or even jump on top of them without them toppling over in the process. I've only managed to find one piece of cat furniture that suits him — it's a giant cheese wedge (not the popular plush model) with toys hanging on the inside. He can't fit in it, but he does *love* to sleep on top of it. I'd really like to find something similar — just a giant, one-level cat house that he could comfortably sleep on top of and use as a scratching device. The one he has now is old and has been scratched down to the bare wood in most places. Attached toys would be a plus. His birthday is in a few weeks so the sooner I can track something down, the better! Thanks in advance for your help.
There is line by Charles Dicken's in "A Tale of Two Cities" which goes to the effect that "……I am a drinking man, and, like all drinking men I know a man who can…….". Ask around the local watering hole, church social or Parent's and Citizen's night. There is always a man who just loves to build things out of wood with his bare hands. And it has been my experience that they do it for virtually nothing. That way you get just what you want. And it is made with love , rather than for a profit margin.

Sounds like your best bet would be to make him something.
You can go to Home Deopt and buy a concrete form (they are large and round in various sizes-made from HEAVY cardboard) Then buy 2 pieces of wood that you can cut to fit the top and bottom for a cover. Home Dept will do the cuts if you ask.
You can then screw them into the top and bottom. Next is to go to the carpet store and buy a remnant that will cover the outside. If you have an old pillow, you can put it in a pillow case (easy to wash) and use that for the bed inside the condo.
I know it looks tough..but it's pretty easy, just lotsa steps.

This may sound silly, but consider a dog house with a flat roof. Simply use a staple gun and elastic string to attach toys to the top inside. Tie some elastic through plastic belled cat balls, attach it to the base of a catnip mouse, etc. Customize it with the stuff you know your cat loves. Bend any staple tips sticking out flush against the roof, then use liquid nails, provided you give it A LOT of time to dry, to attach carpeting scraps to the top and sides to make it suitable for scratching.

I bought a cat tree online; the site is armakat.com. I didn't quite know what to expect, but turns out it was great quality (better than anything at the pet store) and assembly was very easy. I bought my cat and her two kittens a set of stairs (only three stairs) that may be perfect for your cat. It won't come with toys…but you may be able to find something better at the site. They have a large variety.
